Sam Seder Is Embarrassingly Misinformed About 1950s Tax Rates

This guy might actually believe the nonsense he spews.

God bless Sam Seder. This guy gives us copious - actually, almost endless - amounts of content to write about here on this new, cute little blog.

Sam Seder, following in David Pakman's footsteps, went on Patrick Bet-David's podcast this afternoon, and absolutely fucking humiliated himself when he demonstrated just how ignorant he was regarding the tax rates on the rich in the 1950s.

Sam Seder began his brazen demonstration of ignorance when he claimed the top tax rate in the 1950s was an upwards of 90% on the wealthiest Americans. This is a typical bullshit-talking-point that self-proclaimed socialists usually spew, but if they ever actually wanted to be honest while discussing the subject, they'd specifically say the "legal top tax rate," because according to all available data, almost none of the wealthiest Americans paid even close to such a number.

This may make Sam Seder extremely angry to learn, but unfortunately for him, the data is very clear: the average amount of taxes the top 1% of Americans paid on their income in the 1950s was around 42%, only between 3 and 5% more than what Sam Seder claimed is the current top tax rate in the United States right now. This data has been widely available on the internet for the better part of a decade now through various studies, so there's no reason whatsoever Sam Seder should be so ignorant on the subject (unless he's just lying, but at this point, we're not so sure that he is - he may very well be just that ignorant).

Sam Seder has hosted several debates over the years in which he's made the same claim about the tax rates in the 1950s (and so have many other YouTube socialists, including Cenk Uygur with The Young Turks). Here at Ending Politics, we're getting pretty tired of hearing him spew this false talking point over and over again ad nauseam. It's annoying at best, and a flat-out lie at worst, meant to keep his audience extremely uneducated on the subject, and keep him artificially propped up on his left-wing pedestal.

Because we never want you to just take our word for it (and because we never like sending our readers off to  run a wild goose chase on the Googs), we've as usual taken the liberty of posting the data below.

But no, don't believe your lying eyes! Believe the bullshit that's spewing out Sam Seder's mouth instead, despite the fact he's never shown you any actual data to support his claims! You're smart! Don't believe the data! Believe Sam Seder's opinion that has no grounding in reality, instead!

At the time of this writing, the clip of the podcast we're referring to was only posted about 3 hours ago on Patrick Bet-David's YouTube channel, and has already accumulated over 56,000 views. We can only hope that the vast majority of these views came from Sam Seder's own fanbase, so they know exactly what we're talking about in this article when they see it!

On another note, there was one highly funny and hypocritical moment in this podcast, when Patrick Bet-David questioned Sam Seder about what would happen to his own business if his AdSense or membership fees happen to dramatically increase. Keep in mind, Sam Seder advocated for raising the current tax rate on the top 1% from 37-39% all the way up to 90%, at least a 51% increase, just a few minutes before being asked this question. "...Let's just say the memberships you get from Patreon or whoever it is, okay, what if their fees went from them keeping 5% to 60% [a 55% increase, only 4% more than what Sam Seder himself advocated for in higher tax rates] to 90%, would you continue creating content?" asked Bet-David to Seder.

"I mean, I-I-I, I would - I would probably have to, uh, cut back if there was that..." stuttered Sam Seder.

"Exactly," replied Bet-David.

"Whoa, but, it's only because it's such a big change!" said Sam Seder, despite advocating for an increased tax rate on the 1% that was only 4% less than Bet-David's hypothetical number. Sam Seder hilariously didn't realize the irony of his answer to Bet-David's question.

As we come to a close, we'd like to mention that it's extraordinarily ironic that Sam Seder, being the "data-driven" guy that he is, who wants to see data or polling to prove literally anything anyone ever says, doesn't know what rich people actually paid in taxes in the 1950s, the decade in which many economists on the left and right consider to be the golden era of the American economy.

We once wrote an article on this blog about Sam Seder called "Disingenuous Politics: The Fall of Sam Seder." We may have to issue a retraction on that article at some point, as we're becoming less and less sure if Sam Seder is actually being disingenuous. The more we listen to Sam Seder, the more we wonder: maybe Sam Seder isn't being disingenuous. Maybe he really is this stupid....

We've taken the liberty of iFraming this piece of indie media gold below for your viewing entertainment.
